Planting Portulacaria afra which absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. 

Our pupils interacted internationally with two schools in India, around solutions. Throughout this process, our volunteers have interacted with inner city youth, creating worksheets on climate change for primary school kids. We also continued to interact with other SA students in drafting the youth statement for the JHB climate action plan We reported back on this in assembly - see link below. 

Azerbaijani students had the opportunity to meet with world students with the Climate Action project. Turkey, Pakistan and Azerbaijan did webinar on 23 October. All schools shared their work in the webinar that lasted for 2 sessions.

Grade 11 students of Choithram School shared their learning with Kamilla Klyshbekova’s students of Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Chemistry and Biology, Kyzylorda (Kazakhstan) during a webinar on October 31, 2020. Students of both the schools apprised each other about the causes and effects of climate change in their country along with the possible solutions at the personal/local/global level.  Teachers of both the schools felt that the session was very productive and students of both the schools benefited.

Students presented their solutions ranging for problems like deforestation, water pollution, excessive use of air conditioners and bush fires.

Ms Vlera listened to them and also gave them a feedback.

Me and my pupils had a Zoom conference with Ms. Abbie Nott. My pupils shared their solutions on climate change at individual, organizational and government level. We were excited to converse with her about the solutions on Climate Change at the Global level by discussing about the change in climatic conditions in UK.

Virtual interactions done with 5 schools across the world. The schools were from Argentina, Colombia, India, Prortugal and Ukranine. They were engaged into discussions and tried to find the causes and possible solutions of climate change.

The students explored ways and means to reduce the effects of the climate change . They showed how small measures taken can culminate into bigger difference . They are concerned as they have only one home ...the Earth. They have left their classes and seeked awareness so that all of us can have a prolonged stay here .

The climate action project happened globally where the students had an opportunity to collaborate with other students from Romania, Malaysia and Brazil. This organic connection resulted in a community with a shared commitment to building a better and more peaceful world. Students become change agents when they take actions to make difference in the local and global community. The students presented and exchanged their thoughts and ideas on climate change.  As the name of the project rightly says the students analysed the reason for climate change and its threats and has taken actions to control climate change. Our mission is to ensure that student voices are heard and that it echoes in many places.

“Upcycle - A Detour From The Trash Cycle” revolves around the idea of contributing towards the environment in whatever little way one can in order to sustain it. It introduces upcycling, a newer and more eco friendly version of recycling. The talk brings into picture an original upcycled product designed to curb the plastic menace and contribute positively to the environment. The link of the youtube video is that of a TED Talk beautifully used as a platform by Khushi Purohit, Head girl of Navrachana School Sama and currently in grade 12 to talk about upskill to upcycle a project that she has been constantly working on since a year and a half. 

Upskill refers to equipping oneself with a new skill. Through this project being taken up by the school students are being taught stitching, one among the many skills which is in turn widening their horizon of learning.

Upcycling involves taking an item that would otherwise be waste and improving it in some way to make it useful again. Upcycling isn’t just transforming objects into better versions of themselves; often, objects get repurposed to offer a different function entirely. Like plastic bottles being used as pots, old clothes used to make bags,and many more.

The only limits to upcycling are your imagination and your skills. However, if you need to do something that’s not in your skillset, you can either give it a go and learn a new skill or ask someone else to do it for you.

Thus, Navrachana has initiated this project known as upskill to upcycle.

We conducted virtual Student Exchange Program with schools in Europe, Palestine, Romania, Israel. It was wonderful platform for students to share climate crisis in their countries and discuss solutions to combat climate change

IT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE STUDENTS COMING UP WITH SOLUTIONS. 

This week students looked for solutions and made environment-friendly items by using recycled material. They also worked towards creating awareness in society.

As a part of Week -5 activity Children had an interactive session among peer group shared their solutions and took feedback from the group.

Children had a mentor session with Ms.Vlera Hasani where they shared their solutions. 
Ms Vlera appreciated the enthusiasm of the students.

  Students made plans about implementing the solution to climate change. They also interacted with their mentor and gained insight about their project. The excitement and urge to participate in the online interactions is clearly an indication that young minds are bubbling with enthusiasm to bring about a change.We are moving closer to our goal of saving saving mother Earth.

In Week 5, students of Class 2 expressed through any of the modes of Art like singing, dancing, presenting a skit, Art and craft, show n tell. They also got an opportunity to share their individual solutions through Student Mentor Programme held with Caroline (student Mentor)

Students have collectively created 'Class Climate Action Board' on Mentimeter Cloud. They have suggested people to adopt eco-friendly products like plantable pencils, eco-friendly packaging material and wipes, oxygen giving indoor plants such as snake plant etc. They have worked on implementation on solutions. 

Students discussed and together came up with their initiative for action.

 This week students interacted internationally and shared their findings of the project. They also talked about the possible potential solutions. Inhouse Webinar was conducted which made the students dive deep into the ocean of thoughts, where they can ponder upon the causes, effects and find the solutions to the problem. 

Students were shown videos from different continents to widen their thoughts and give a clearer view of what's happening in the world. Students were excited to talk with their friends overseas.

The session started with student speaking about there activities.

All Students had meticulously created there posters on solution and presented one by one in details about all those solutions.

Ms. Caroline Cornett joined us from Texas, USA as a mentor, she attended and answered all the queries put across by the students.

She was overwhelmed by seeing the posters prepared by the children and prasied their innovative solutions.

Students actively participated in studying both the causes and effects of Climate Change. During the fourth week of the project they went beyond the frame and came together as teams in order to come up with solutions to the effects of Climate  Change. Students also submitted prototypes of the solutions they suggested - one of which was a 'Solar powered car with turbine propulsion'.

The following week (Week 5),the changemakers of The Charter School, Kochi, planted trees as part of the #PlantED initiative and have conrtibuted to the most effective method of curbing climate change and its effects. 

Here is a short presentation to share what action we would like to take to help curb climate change.

Attended a zoom webinar 'Climate Change Hackathon' on October 28,2020 by Lucie and Emma Jacobs,WWF. We discussed on topics like how to engage politicians to practically take action on climate change, what are the major barriers that stop us from engaging politiciansto take action on global change etc and shared the solutions found by various schools.

1. Do away with disposable plastic spoons - Edible Spoons 

We started with our climate action project journey from basic understanding of climate change and in week 4 and 5 we have reached the goal of how to approach these changes at local level. 

1. I think the interaction with Brazilan students was a great  exposure for our students. They have learned so many things like they have not only appreciated the other students, but they realized they are the same, they are equal, and they have great ideas as well and everyone wants the same solution to help our mother earth. 
2. Students have come up with innovative solutions which will help us at the local level . A good part is students have started adopting to these changes at their individual level. 
3. In week 5 they have started approaching other students of their class, friends and family members by sensitization towards climate change.  Compost making through kitchen waste  is one the activity they have in Week 5-AMeeting was conducted on Thursday, 29 .10.2020. Explanation of the procedure of making compost was done.Students were already informed to keep the materials like : an old box, a little soil, some vegetable peels, curd mixed with water, etc. 

It was announced that there will be a webinar on 5.11.2020 conducted by various dignitaries. Students were asked to send questions to the speakers. The names of the dignitaries were given to the students. They were asked to search about their work.

Our students held a webinar with other students in Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Turkey. We talked about climate problems in the webinar held within the scope of the Climate action project. We shared our work with each other. We both learned and had fun.

Students developed their project and received feedback from two mentors in Hong Kong and Kosovo.

We organized a student webinar within the scope of the Climate action project. Pakistan Azarbaycan, students met in Turkey webinar. They shared their work with each other. Pakistani teacher answered the questions of our students. We read poems. We watched presentations.

Today we matched with Israel as part of our project. Project coordinator Karina Batat introduced us to her schools and project work. The students made their presentations. A very nice webinar. Thank you.

I listened to the information and experiences of the participants within the scope of the project. It was an extremely effective session. I questioned what I could do both on an individual basis and on behalf of my country regarding the steps to be taken. For this, we passed and had our manifesto signed by the local authority of our city.

Brief About myself: My name is Fasahat, I have recently joined two months back in Shining Star International School. I was previously working in Gulf International Private academy (American curriculum). My detailed profile link.

Brief of my work: I am currently a homeroom teacher for primary, mainly for Grade 1A. The age group I worked with for this project is about 5 - 7 years old. I blended the learning in my Environmental Studies Lessons PowerPoint presentations. In my lessons, I have implemented thinking routes within my PPTs so that my students can develop their thinking process on Climate Change.

Teaching Methodology: Last Saturday, I have created the weekly activity and information on Flipgrid for my students and then asked them to upload their understanding by the end of the week in two seperate Flipgrids, Flipgrid . Other than the Lesson PowerPoint Presentations, I have helped them to develop a Pictionary about their responsibilities for the earth as their home.

A goup of students and teachers from IIS P. Sraffa Crema met an SDGs ambassador and students from Venezuela to share ideas about possible solutions to figth global warming and climate change. For 5 weeks of the project, we had an arranged meeting with students from Brazil. At the online meeting, our students presented the beauties of our city, and some of the environmental problems that occur. Eventually, they were divided into different rooms and briefly exchanged views on climate change in their city.

In the fifth week of the project we had an online meeting with students from Salvador Brazil. At the meeting, the students from our school made a presentation of our city Ohrid and Lake Ohrid, which is on the list of cities under UNESCO. Students from  Salvador then discussed the main causes of pollution in their city of  Salvador and the possibilities to address them. Eventually the students were divided into groups and communicated with each other and discussed solutions to climate change.

The notion of everybody playing a part in looking after our planet and making changes before it's too late, is becoming more and more important. Schools are keen to play their part and are doing so in different ways. Eco Clubs are one way to encourage interest and involvement and can be very rewarding, especially when children are given responsibility to make their own decisions about the changes they want to see and the opportunity to improve their own school environment.

We planted one more oak tree, within this wonderful project. We advice everyone to bring his/her small contribution to stop climate change- Plant Trees!

This week all students in Moldova have  had autumn vacations. During the week we thought of the questions to the speakers of summit, watched a wonderful film " Our Planet Our Business" and discussed it. On October 28 we participated in the Hackathon and created the plan of action. On October 30 we had a great possibility to see , to listen and to ask questions to world experts of WWF. 

This week we focused on office hours, watching videos about the future of the planet. The students exchanged views on the future of the planet in 2 ways: for a bright future and if people continue to have an irresponsible attitude towards the future of the planet, what will happen? They performed various tasks: they proposed an ecological message, filling in the worksheets, interactive exercises on Mentimenter.

This week we interacted with Group colleagues, trying to solve some problems that are the causes of climate change. In analyzing and discussing, we have proposed some measures that we could take to slow down the changes that are taking place around us. But a small group like us cannot bring about a major change in climate change, so we urge that we create a group that includes all those who want future generations to have a place they can call home. Together we are more.
Let's build a world where everyone is happy with what is happening around him.

This week we focused on describing the future of our planet. Students have identified what the planet will look like in the future. We analyzed the examples from Benjamin Zephaniah and Kae Tempest. We watched the Future Visions film together and we use it as the basis for a class discussion. The student are completed the worksheet, they use their imaginations and share vision of life in the future. 

We did a braistorming to propose solutions for the future, to have a balance between nature and people.

This week we watched a video about the future of our planet and discussed solutions to climate change.

Although there has been a lockdown in our country for a week and the students have had on-line education, we managed to implement further activities. We had the opportunity to meet on-line during which we summarized our activities, we remembered how important it is to protect the environment, why rapid climate changes occur and what is the reason for it. During the interactive meeting, our students during the Geography lesson, using the resources of the Europa Direct website, watched interesting videos in which their peers from Austria, Portugal or Spain spoke about environmental protection, competed in the on-line game "Ecological Shaun", and also played  board game on climate and tested their knowledge in the "Climate & Energy" quiz and found out what the EU is doing in the field of climate. On November 5, we participated in an international webinar the main speakers of which were: Dr. Jane Goodall President Juan Manuel Santos Message from Sir David Attenborough HRH Princess Esmeralda of Belgium Kumi Naidoo, former director Greenpeace & Amnesty International Vanessa Nakate Rick, NASA Cecily, WWF Sam, UN Environment Program It was an amazing experience

During computer science lessons in Skratch, students presented their ecological vision of the world.

The animations show how they imagine a world in which everyone cares for the planet, the animations are also intended to encourage others to act together.

We were able to conduct a Zoom meeting with Pakistani students. It was an amazing experience and we hope it won't be the last.

Despite distance learning, we continue to participate in the project. This week we participated in a videoconference during which engineer Korneliusz Sierpowski, a researcher at the Wrocław University of Technology, told us about wind turbines. We got to know the types of turbines and their construction, and thanks to computer animations we saw how turbines work and how we obtain electricity thanks to them. The engineer conducted an experiment on a vision with a dryer and a wind meter. He showed us which locations are the best for building wind turbines, where there are the most of them in Poland and in which countries clean wind energy is used. Children asked questions to which Mr. Engineer patiently and comprehensively answered. People were asked how to protect the turbines against flying birds (white and red stripes are painted on the blades and deterrent systems are used, e.g. sounds with an appropriate frequency). There were questions about the durability of the "windmill" and whether it can also be used in cities. We already know that the turbine can be built at an appropriate distance from the buildings - at a distance of 10 times the height of its tower. We also saw the stages of building a turbine.
The lecture was very interesting, enriched with animations, films and even an experiment! Although we planned the meeting for about 30 minutes, thanks to the children's questions and answers, the classes lasted twice as long. Thanks to this, we know more about the method of producing clean energy.

On November 5th, together with my students we took part in a webinar on climate change. My students were interested in the subject, they felt it was really educating. Moreover, they were delighted to be a part of such a huge project, and happy to understand so many outstanding English speakers. 

We connected with students and teachers from Croatia, Mexico and India. The students prepared presentations about their towns, schools and traditions of their countries. We also exchanged our experience of preparing different tasks of the project. We talked about the situation in our countries and about students' solutions. 

The special needs students used Covid-19 masks to produce the Portuguese climate change barcode. It shows temperature rise in the country for the past 100 years. They painted each strip a different colour.

The younger students did a dance routine to show the barcode to the community.

We told students that we will be calling on mayors to make a pledge and asked them what they thought should be part of the manifesto. They made suggestions of what to ask the mayors to agree on. Since our schedules won't allow us to participate in the webinar, we requested our youngesters to make suggestions of the questions they'd like to be answered. They worked in pairs or individually but always keeping social distancing. 

Climate Action Project - WEEK 5 video

This week, our purpose is to act against the effects of this phenomenon locally. The main objective is to raise awareness among the population of the municipality to a better environmental  education, as we see that there is a local deficit related to this aspect. Our idea consists, in the first place, in the distribution of educational flyers in the mailboxes of the citizens who live in our parishes, namely, Termas de São Vicente, Oldrões, Portela, Valpedre and Eja. Our planet needs action on a truly global scale, but right now, thinking locally is a priority. We have made known to the President of Penafiel of our action, through a letter, to join us in future interventions for the global and local environment. Protecting our city and, consequently, our planet, is one of our purposes.

Building Climate Action through Interactions-week 5

As part of this activity, we made calls to schools in Portugal, India and Canada. However, our program matched a school in Portugal, and the project coordinators (Elisabete Gomes, Ana Fonseca and Daniela Scarlii) initiated a meeting on Zoom, so that, by presenting the materials about Portugal and Romania, we could discuss the causes, the effects. and the solutions we can find together to reduce climate change.

We were discussing about the benefits of planting and growing  vegetables in our garden. We calculated how  much  money we would save if we were implicated in this recreative activities.

The activities represent the actions and the attitude that the students of the class took during the project, as well as its presentation to the parents.

We met with students from  Norway and we discussed  about sollutions. We found out that in Norway there are 50 percent electric cars. They frequencey use bikes. We learnt from them that we can also follow these rules in order to have a clean country.

REUSE, RECYCLE, REDUCE!!!

This week was all about promoting personal steps to be taken in order to make a difference. One team promotes recycling and living responsably, our other team promotes healthy lifestyle,using bikes and less use of cars or other polluting means of transport.

Every decision to make a change makes a difference on a larger scale.

This week we had an extremely interesting meeting with a secundary middle school from Flanders, Belgium. The belgian students are 12 till 14 years old likr our students. Their teacher, Koen Smets, suggested some topics to discuss:

• What are the main sources of energy (fossile vs. Renewable, Household vs. Industry) in our town / country?
• Is sustainability on the political agenda?
• Do you allready experience local effects of climate change?  
• What kind of climate is there in your country? Are there also four seasons as in Belgium?
• How do the students go to school. Mainly public transport? Bicycle? Parents who bring them?
• Does your students have a smartphone? Is it affordable? How much does it cost?
• Each team presented briefly their country as introduction to themeeting (capital, highlights, habitants, …).

We analyzed projects of project partners, we searched for solutions, we discussed how we can get involved. 

Because we, in Bucharest, are only with online activities, we remembered on our communication group the meetings with nature from the last months. That's why we posted some of these memories here as well.

The students watched the presentation on Climate Change, given the pandemic, we organized a session on google classroom, the platform used in class using the MEET application. We are in the red scenario and it was the most convenient way to organize this activity.

Climate change is already happening: temperatures are rising, rainfall patterns are changing, glaciers and snow are melting, and the average sea level around the globe is rising. To a large extent, warming is most likely caused by the marked increase in atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases as a result of emissions from human activities. To mitigate climate change, we must reduce or prevent these emissions.

•Degajarea inconştientă în atmosferă de cantităţi uriaşe de gaze cu efect de seră a determinat această încălzire globală – cu efecte dezastruoase atât pe termen scurt cât şi pe termen lung.

•Ce este de făcut? Conştientizarea acestei probleme de mediu de către cei ce au cauzat-o în cea mai mare măsură şi căutarea de soluţii în acest sens.

•Exploatarea raţională a resurselor şi păstrarea echilibrului naturii  reprezintă două elemente de bază pe care trebuie să şi le însuşească fiecare individ în contextul unei vieţi cât mai sănătoase şi mai echilibrate pe Pământ.

O good solution for being more conscious about our environment will be some debates on the Climate change Action, on pollution, or on how we save our Planet.

There were several debates on these topics, debates between students from another high school, and their coordinators. We had an interesting relationship with another school. Communicating with one another was a real pleasure.

All the students and all the participants to this on-line meeting were very cooperative and happy to discover new things together.

There was an exciting meeting where the students introduced themselves and told about the importance of the project for them. They presented posters they created following the learning they had in the project.

The children, through their artistic creation, transmitted their love for the earth.

For this activity, I proposed to my students to make a poster with our tips about how to be careful people with our planet. Because this  was an online activity, we used https://www.canva.com/ . We formulated 5 tips which we were happy  to share with our collegues from our school, city, even country. All these tips were easy things that everybody can do, like: use natural materials to make a school project, take care of small plants, adopt a tree, recylce, dont't waste the drinkable water. We posted our poster on the school platform.

We watch a film about the climat change in the world. We discuss about it and we write some conclussion.

During the fifth week of the Clamate Action Project, children provided possible solutions to the problems caused by climate change.

5th week in our kindergarten we organized sorting competition. We sorted plastic and paper in recycle bin. The knowledge we have been learned is very usefule, because on fun way we learned that blue is for paper and red is for plastic.  We definitely made usr kindergarten is an eco environment. And for the end we watched an eco story about sorting.

Together against Climate Change

Teach others to love nature and connect with nature is our solution (the other students in our kindergathen and adults). 

We had video call with Portugal and Student Mentor from Singapopre. Singapore have great solutions and colaboration with govermant. But some parts of the world do not mind for Climate Change and it is not good for all world.

We watch the offered movies and presentations about climate change and Mars. We talk, we notice, we conclude.

Exploring air pollution 

The time spent outside is invaluable. We watched children from other countries preserve nature. We decided to get to know nature first. I want to love her so much that we keep her forever.

We have described and prepared the materials for our proyect to stop climate change.

After climate Action project we decided to create a game to share with our partners of other classrooms.

Our students met a national NGO and the volunteers had a presentation in our school.

What are the effects of climate change?

Climate change destabilises the Earth’s temperature equilibrium and has far-​reaching effects on human beings and the environment. During the course of global warming, the energy balance and thus the temperature of the earth change, due to the increased concentration of greenhouse gases, which has a significant impact on humans and the environment.

The students did some experiments and some activities about effects of climate change. These activities was created awareness for climate change.

We have got in contact with a Woodland Trust Charity and decided on the trees we are going to buy to plant at school. We purchased soil and pots and spoke how our purchase can help our planet and climate change. 

Because of the nature of our school- SEN school for children with SEMH problems and autism it was difficult for us to join the online webinars.

One of the solution is use as much as we can alternative sourses of energy. We created a solar oven. Have a look!

It was an unusual week when we had the opportunity to talk with Lena Huang who gave helpful pieces of advice, motivated and gave the faith to continue working and changing the ecological situation in our community. Besides we had two online meetings with the classroom from India, they were so kind, active and friendly, we talked about climate change and proposed solutions to this problem, besides we exchanged our impressions about activities during the participation in Climate Action Project.

We can save the earth, for example, by cycling, eating organic food , cultivating a vegetable garden or planting a tree, reducing our waste every day, educating our children to take care of our planet. This week our students communicated and collaborated to create a solution  how to save the planet. Firstly, we have realised that governments and international organizations, while vital for agreeing on global targets . Environmental goals cannot be met just by environment ministries, no matter how much money they are given.  Each one should take the responsibility on saving the planet!

This interaction is the same as the one with Mexico City. I uploaded the video under week 3. My high school students described the solutions for climate change and the elementary students from Mexico City explained the effects and causes of climate change.

Tomar pequeñas acciones que genran grandes cambios, es algo que les digo constantemente a mis alumnos. Considero de gran importancia que sepan que con escuchar y hacer una sola reflexión han realizado un cambio. Es una persona más con conocimiento del tema, que tomara acción, realizara propuesta y creara grandes movimeintos para invitar a otros. 

Mejorara sus espacios por espacios más verdes y saludables. 

Nuestro principal proyecto sera, realizar compostas que nos permitan nutrir árboles y plantas en Ciudad de México. Los nuveles de contaminación, los cambios tan bruscos de temperaturas, enferman a nuestros árboles, buscaremos brindarle nutrientes haciendo composta, con l ayuda de lombrices y otros microorganismos que se generan. cuando regresemos a la escuela de manera presencial mejoraremos y nutriremos las áreas verdes. 

Por ahora comenzamos en casa, en la cercania de nuestra comunidad. Porque una pequeña acción hace la diferencia. 

Adopt a plant update and action plan

Students from Colegio Latino shared the local actions that they have been implementing from home in order to foster an ecological awareness in their community. They were enriched as well with students from Elektronik school in Poland (Secondary School of Electronics) and students from Waitzman School, Beit Yehosh in Israel who also shared their great contribution related to The Climate Action Project in their country. 

Well, as I expected, I am still going solo on the week's schedule, but my grandchildren have indirectly decided what the project will be.  My grandson FaceTime one day very interested in continuing to learn how to make letters, especially because he had figured out how to write his name in uppercase letters.  I am teaching him how to read in Spanish using a program I remember using when I was his age.  It is called Coquito.  Coquito was invented by a Peruvian pre-school educator who turned 95 years old this year.  So, our project is raising awareness of climate change in the pre-school and kindergarten population by creating an alphabet book. So far, I am using the Spanish alphabet and I am attempting to do the words bilingually.  

The structure of the alphabet will change as we go through the lessons, but in the 5th week PP you will find the beginning of it with the letter A for astronauts as both of my grandchildren dressed up as astronauts for Halloween 2020.  We also have done the words for Winter and Winter Climate and Fall Climate.  I need to point out that my older grandchild still does not understand the difference between seasons and weather, therefore, the climate has not been targeted yet, but soon will as we look through the lens of sending a note to the space station.  

During a breakfast conversation this week, my grandson asked me if I knew about the colors of the planets and the solar system as he was very excited about being an astronaut for Halloween.  He had a placemat with the Solar System and he proceeded to teach me about the colors in it.  As I also sent him an inflated space ship, he was going to blast off to those planets soon.  I told him I was going to add astronaut, space ship, the space station to our growing Alphabet.   An ABC of Caring for Mother Earth and the Solar System.  My granddaughter was only interested in showing me the bow in her hair she was going to wear for Halloween.  Her astronaut suit did not generate the same level of excitement as in my grandson.  The space ship did though.  Maybe because I only sent one inflatable and her brother was so excited to blast off in his astronaut suit. 

I showed my grandson an abbreviated version of the space station and astronauts telling about what they do there.  He was eating breakfast and kind of showed some interest.  I asked him if he wanted to write something to the astronauts in the space station.  He said he would, but he had to think about what he would say.
