- Definition of climate change: Climate change is the alteration of the weather conditions of an area prevailing over a long period of time.
- A few causes of climate change :
- Illegal cutting of trees
- Burning of fossil fuels
- Release of harmful gases like nitrous oxide in the atmosphere that is formed due to use of synthetic fertilizers
- Accumulation of methane gas (accounts for about 16% of greenhouse gas emissions) in the atmosphere due to waste decompostion in landfills.
- Use of chlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbons in home appliances like refrigerators. (Deplete the ozone layer and impact the atmosphere)
- The above points were discussed with Std VII students in the class with the help of presentations, articles and youtube videos.
- Students observed, analysed and related these causes with their surroundings and made a presentation on the causes of climate change.
