he 2nd Experimental Primary School of Rhodes Town is located at the Akademia building, in Ioannis Zigdes Square, in the middle of the island's town centre. It has 200 students between the ages of and 12, 9 classes, and 20 teachers that teach a variety of subjects.
As an experimental school, we aim to explore and develop innovative actions and educational practices. The school has experience in environmental programs and networks with a vast number of distinctions and awards. Our systematic work to turn our school into sustainability, was justified when we received the first prize in the Sustainable School Competition. There is a concentrated effort to adapt our curricula towards sustainability, always based on the needs of our local society. We strive to help our students develop attitudes, skills and values focused on sustainability, so they can be capable to solve complex environmental problems with a view to improving the quality of their life, which is directly connected with their ecological footprint.
Our main purpose and vision, is that our school will serve democracy and human rights, promote sustainability and culture, and shape active, creative and environmentally aware citizens.
In our school, we nurture citizens with environmental awareness and consciousness, active and with a sense of responsibility towards social matters, fully embracing the importance of "I understand therefore I act" and that taking action, does not only involve governments, but each and every one of us. After informing the whole school community and our students’ families regarding the content and purpose of the Global Goals towards Sustainable Development, we have taken a series of actions to raise local community awareness. Ultimately, everyone will develop new ethos, values and social goals in order to develop a different understanding about the relationship between man and the environment.
