Climate change is an existential threat, a threat propagated and gravely accelerated by human activity, that activity being the release of greenhouse gases—mainly carbon dioxide—that has steadily been increasing global average temperature, with its effects beginning to seep into communities across the world: affecting natural resources, ecosystems, economies and public health across the world, leading to the increase in prolonged periods of high temperature, an increase in wildfires, an increase in severe droughts, the thawing of permafrost, the acidification of our oceans and drastic sea level rise that has the potential to kill and displace billions.
